Gillen Shares His Budget Priorities Following Governor’s Annual Address to Legislature
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Mark Gillen (R-Berks/Lancaster) today in Harrisburg issued the following statement outlining his priorities after Gov. Tom Wolf delivered his annual budget address to a joint session of the state House and Senate:

“The No. 1 issue for me and many of the people I am privileged to represent in Berks and Lancaster counties is school property taxes. I will continue working on this important issue until homeowners are free from this inherently unfair tax once and for all.

“Based on extensive local media coverage and some legislative hearings we held in the area, it is clear the funding structure and policies related to halfway homes should be reviewed and reformed. As long as taxpayer dollars are being used to fund these facilities, we want to make sure they provide a safe environment for the people who live there as well as the community where they are located.

“We’ve made significant investments and enacted strategic policies aimed at fighting the opioid epidemic in Pennsylvania. We need to continue those efforts and expand them in order to protect Pennsylvanians against this growing health and public safety threat.

“The Commonwealth continues to provide significant financial support for local schools and students. I believe we should work to provide additional financial resources to invest in today’s students, who will become tomorrow’s workforce.

“I’m committed to working with my colleagues to enact a state budget that wisely invests the state’s limited financial resources in programs and policies that will deliver results for Pennsylvanians.”
