HARRISBURG – Rep. Mark Gillen (R-Berks) issued the following statement regarding his vote against the $45.55 billion state budget proposal.

“My recent ‘no’ vote on the state budget reflects my concern about spending more money than we are taking in via tax revenue.

“State government must live within its means, just like the families in our communities do.

“In this large budget document, I certainly found elements that I supported, including enhancements for public safety and education. I also advocated for the additional $500 million going into the Rainy Day savings fund.

“The budget bill also represented a missed opportunity to address property tax elimination. This failure to rescue homeowners, coupled with the unsustainable spend numbers, resulted in my ‘no’ vote.”
