Gillen Announces Infrastructure Improvement Grants for Berks County
HARRISBURG – Rep. Mark Gillen (R-Berks/Lancaster) announced today that three infrastructure improvement projects in Berks County received a combined $256,250 in Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program grant funding.
“This funding will aid in bringing these important projects to fruition and will help ensure residents have reliable water service for decades to come,” Gillen said. “I applaud the Commonwealth Financing Authority for recognizing the importance of these projects.”
The projects are as follows:
• Caernarvon Township Authority received $50,000 to replace its existing water softener with a new water softener system and to install new piping, valves and meters at its well house on Mill Road.
• Robeson Township Municipal Authority received a $125,000 grant to update Pump Station No. 1 and Pump Station No. 2. Pump Station No. 1 will be equipped with a larger capacity pump with new controls, a flow meter and a televised monitoring and alarm system. A new emergency generator will be installed at Pump Station No. 2.
• Wyomissing received a $81,250 grant to replace 1,750 linear feet of cast iron pipe with new ductile iron watermain and associated items, including fire hydrants, valves, service lines and street restoration.
Grant funding is through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program, which offers grants for small water and sewer infrastructure projects and can be used to assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply or sanitary sewer system.
